Welcome to Apex Chiropractic

Why Choose Apex Chiropractic?

Conveniently located in Shelby Charter Township, MI, Apex Chiropractic’s unique approach focuses on structural chiropractic care. Unlike traditional chiropractic care, our goal is to direct your spine to what’s considered normal. Using state-of-the art diagnostic tools, techniques and equipment at apex chiropractic we’re able to relieve the pressure on your ligaments, tendons, disc structure, and the nerve tissue that constitutes your spine—achieving visible and tangible results. If you’re tired of constantly patching up your back pain or other symptoms, and are looking for a lasting solution that you can both feel and see for yourself, then Apex Chiropractic may be the right choice.

Structural vs Traditional

Traditional Chiropractic Care

Traditional chiropractors focus on goals in the realm of decreasing muscular spasm, increasing range of motion, and reducing pain. Which is how most chiropractors practice. And most of them are excellent at what they do.

Traditional chiropractic care falls under the umbrella category of symptom relief or symptom management.

Structural Chiropractic Care

Within healthcare there are various accepted normal ranges used diagnostically. For example, everything from weight, blood pressure, heart rate, to thyroid levels can be identified and compared to an accepted standard, in order to necessitate and determine a course of treatment.

Structural chiropractic care follows the same conceptual approach in identifying deficiencies and issues; by utilizing engineering concepts with a foundational viewpoint, and then comparing to a well-researched, accepted normal. This allows for precise measuring of the severity of an issue, allows for accurate correction of the problem, and pre and post measures; which achieve visible, and tangible results.

Of course we recognize, our approach isn't the best fit for everyone and we don't expect anyone to be absolutely perfect in their structure. That is why, our consultation is designed to determine whether or not structural corrective chiropractic care is a good fit for your needs.

So, if you’re tired of constantly patching up the problem, and are looking for a lasting solution that you can both feel and see for yourself, then Apex may be the right place for you.

Once your foundation has been fixed, then we’ll teach you how to keep it that way through customized recommendations designed for your spine—so the problem doesn’t come back.

What is a Structural Shift?

Imagine for a moment that you recently won a bid on a “fixer upper” home at auction with hopes of flipping it for a considerable profit. However, upon assessing the repairs needed on the property, you find a number of things requiring attention.

Specifically, there are pervasive cracks in the walls throughout the house, a number of the windows creak when opening them, and the front door doesn’t seem to want to shut properly.

Lastly, upon a more thorough inspection, you discover that the foundation isn't level, deviating the base down significantly enough to create a myriad of problems within the house.

Logically, the foundation issue is causing the other pesky issues in the home.

Now, consider for a few more moments on the order in which you would go about renovating this home. Would it be ideal to first patch up the walls, put some WD40® in the windows, and replace the door—just for the issues to return in a few months—hoping perspective buyers wouldn't notice? Of course it wouldn’t.

The more sensible solution would be to hire a professional whose job it is to make certain the structure of the house is level, and then go about patching up the secondary issues.

This same concept applies to structural issues of your spine. When the structure of your spine deviates outside of an accepted range; it can put undue stress on your ligaments, tendons, disc structure, and nerve tissue that make up your spine. This deviation in structure is termed a structural shift.

While there is a long laundry list of temporary pain remedies, creams, and tonics to patch a spinal issue—it only makes good sense to correct your structural issues for lasting results.

What Are Secondary Conditions?

When a spinal structural shift is the primary condition, or root cause of your problem, it can create a number of secondary conditions (traditionally called symptoms).

However, the word symptoms often suggest that the solution for the problem is the addressing of symptoms versus correctly targeting the underlying issue—a spinal structural shift. Therefore, in structural chiropractic care, we use the term secondary conditions, and so focus on correcting your primary condition for lasting results.

With use of our state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and approach we can identify the precise location of your spine’s structural shift and where the nerves are being disrupted. This not only tells us valuable information about your secondary conditions but—more importantly—gives us a road map to providing you with a lasting correction.

Some of your secondary conditions may include the following:

  • Arm Pain (Upper & Lower)
  • Asymmetry (Ex: Low Shoulder)

What I Need to Know Before My Exam?

First and foremost, our practice operates in such a way that allows for you and the doctor  to meet, through a consultation, prior to diving into an examination process. This provides the doctor a chance to understand your unique health history and establish whether Apex is a good fit for addressing your condition.

When it comes to your important healthcare needs, we stand proudly committed to a transparent doctor-patient relationship. We'll NEVER attempt to stick a square peg into a round hole. If  we're not confident that we can improve your condition, we'll not only inform you but we will also seek out a provider who can. We, as an office, work with a number of local health care practitioners to ensure that you will get a high-quality referral; if it's warranted.

Our consultation process begins with you filling out new patient paperwork and being shown around the facility. Then you'll meet with the doctor to discuss your personal health history and complaints; along with discussing consent information including risks, benefits, and alternatives to chiropractic treatment. The consultation process can range from 30-45 minutes in duration depending on clinical circumstances.

If, at the end of the consultation, you and the doctor collectively decide to proceed with a structural chiropractic examination one of two processes may occur.

Option #1: Scheduling permitting, the examination can ensue directly after the consultation.

Option #2: A separate appointment for the examination can be scheduled to allocate enough time for the examination.

For the sake of getting the most detailed information possible, our examination process is very detailed. To quantify necessary clinical data we perform a general examination along with a structural chiropractic examination.

Our general examination includes as follows: vital signs, orthopedic testing, and neurological testing in an attempt to rule out any condition that would make it unsafe to proceed with structural correction.

Our structural chiropractic examination includes as follows: biostructural movement testing, a neurostructural thermal deviation assessment, and structural radiographs.

Our examination process can range from 45-60 minutes in duration depending on clinical circumstances (this does not include the time allocated to the consultation).

At the end of the examination, we will schedule a conference between you and the doctor to discuss the results of the testing performed.

At this time, if your case is accepted, applicable clinical recommendations will be discussed for care going forward.

What Are My Treatment Options?

At Apex Chiropractic we value educating our patients on various treatment options both in and outside of our office. A patient who understands their options can make a sound decision based on logic and reason—instead of on distress and fear.

Our job as providers is to ensure that you understand and can navigate the healthcare system regarding your presenting complaint. It’s our belief that chiropractic care should not be a high pressure sales pitch, rather it should be a conversation and decision process between you and the doctor.

In addition to providing you with a clinical recommendation—based off of the diagnostic testing collected from our examination process—we’ll discuss in detail the findings and a plan of customized care specific to your case.

There are no free set of steak knives, part ownership in a timeshare, voucher for a free turkey dinner, or continual harassing phone calls regarding your decision to pursue care at our office.

What Can Apex Chiropractic Do For You?

Ultimately, the goal of our care is to direct your spine to what’s considered normal. By doing so, we relieve pressure on your ligaments, tendons, disc structure, and the nerve tissue that constitutes your spine.

Not only is our treatment process designed to address your structural shift (and therefore its associated secondary conditions) but also provide you with recommendations, which maintain and compliment your correction.

This is a customized program taught to you so it’s truly a lifelong fix. Many of the facets of maintaining a structural correction, once achieved, can be done from the comfort of your own home. No, this is not a lifetime sentencing to chiropractic care.

For about 15 years Alexis has been dealing with neck and back issues. She first experienced these issues while playing sports in high school but several years later they have not improved. In fact, there seems to be more widespread whole body pain from head, jaw, neck and shoulders to lower back, hip and leg. While working, she could notice tilting in her pelvis but could not address the issues. She found temporary relief through traditional chiropractic but felt as though the care was not customized to her condition.

After going through a structural care plan at Apex she has finally started to see results. For the first time in 15 years, she doesn't have back pain, neck pain or widespread body pain!
